Dr. Sauter graduated from Medical School in Zurich in 1989. After graduation he worked at the University Hospital in Zurich and then spent 12 years at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, one of the world’s leading institutions in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (liver disease). He worked many years in basic molecular research, running his own laboratory and was appointed faculty member as Assistant Professor in Medicine, working in Gastroenterology, Hepatology/Liver Transplant and eventually became the Medical Director of Intestinal Transplant. Upon his return he became a Partner at the Gastrozentrum Hirslanden at the Hirslanden Clinic in Zurich, the largest private hospital in Switzerland. The Gastrozentrum Hirslanden is a group of accomplished gastroenterologists covering the entire field of gastroenterology, including advanced endoscopy, functional disorders, anorectal diseases etc. Dr. Sauter is highly trained in endoscopy (gastroscopy, colonoscopy) and is also treating patients with liver disease (Hepatology). In addition, he established one of the largest practices for diagnosis and treatment of complex autoimmune diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis etc.). Dr. Sauter has been an investigator in a wide range of studies, and he is the author or co-author of numerous publications.
